Smoked Coffee Barbecue Sauce

If you haven’t tried smoked coffee yet, here’s another reason: it’s fun to cook with. Available during the warmer months of the year, our smoked coffee is wood-smoked in an actual smokehouse and tastes exactly like campfire coffee tastes in your dreams (minus the overcooked bitterness and mouthful of grounds). Coffee is a great way to add complexity to recipes, and the smokiness  complements more robust flavors, perfect for meats as a rub or marinade, or as an addition to chili.

This recipe uses our standard Smoked Coffee blend, although we also offer French Roast Smoked Coffee if you prefer the flavor of a dark roast, as well as Maple Bacon and Vanilla Bourbon Smoked Coffee. The result is sweet, tangy, smoky, with a subtle spiciness from the ginger. If you like heat, kick it up a notch with some cayenne or finely chopped chili peppers.

What you will need

1 cup ketchup

1/2 cup brewed smoked coffee (strong)

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon molasses

1 teaspoon grated ginger

1/2 ounce dark (70%) chocolate

1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

In a medium saucepan, combine ketchup, coffee, Worcestershire sauce, molasses, and ginger and bring to a low simmer, stirring occasionally, over medium heat. Lower the heat and stir in the chocolate and smoked paprika until chocolate is melted, then let simmer over very low heat, stirring occasionally, until flavors have mellowed and melded, 5-10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

What’s New for June

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2014 by

June is a beautiful month, especially the June I fantasize about in February, which does not include hay fever. That is a surprise every year. This June is extra-special because it marks our tenth anniversary. Ten years of roasting, blending, and creating some of the most unique flavors out there! We’re celebrating with cake, and not the ten year old frozen kind. Some of our featured flavors in June:

If you’re a tea drinker too, celebrate the warm weather with a pitcher of Blueberry Lemon Cake iced tea (it’s great hot too).

Usually our customers fall into one of two categories: flavored coffee lovers and flavored coffee haters.  Lucky for you, we try to have something truly special each month for our customers in both camps. For you flavor haters (aka coffee purists,) our brand new anniversary blend is a mix of some of our all-time favorite coffees, or if you’re looking to try something new, give our smoked coffees a try. Smoked the old fashioned way, it is truly in a class of its own. In addition to our original smoked coffee blend, we’re also offering a new, slightly more mellow blend, Cafe Fume.

Although we’re thrilled that purists love the subtle smoke flavor, we also know that our flavor lovers might need something extra to keep their taste buds interested.  For these wild men and women, we’ve made Campfire S’more smoked coffee, Vanilla Bourbon Smoked Coffee, and flavor favorite Maple Bacon smoked coffee.

A decade of playing with coffee and flavor has produced some weird and delicious cult favorites (Jamaican Me Groggy, Zombie Cure, etc). Because we now have over four hundred flavors and we can’t stop experimenting, we regularly change what we offer on our site. Never fear. We can make just about any of your favorite flavors or blends for you year-round. Just call and ask!

Smoked Coffee

Hi everybody

I just wanted to take a few minutes to let everyone know that we have just received our latest batch of smoked coffee! We start with a custom blend of our wonderful beans, send them out to our smoke house then, when they return, we bag and ship them. After the pain staking task of getting the smoked taste just right (we had to try some gross versions before we got it where it needs to be), it’s actually a perfect blend of smokiness and coffee type goodness.
