Chocolate Chai for Earth Day
March 30th, 2010Now that it’s April, we have a whole new batch of seasonal coffees that I can talk about. Old classics like Cinnamon Cloud and Jelly Bean are available along with newer creations – S’mores and Chocolate Chai. I figured I would take this opportunity to tell you a little bit more about the latter.
While looking over the calendar for ideas, I noticed that Earth Day was right around the corner, and decided that it would be the latest inspiration for a new flavor. Considering what we do for a living, the earth supplies us with the tools to give you the best product available… that and my wife is really into the environment and this was a nice way to get a few brownie points.
We wanted to make sure to do the day justice, so the flavor team and I racked our brains to come up with a flavor based around Earth Day. Many ideas were thrown out, some better than others. Tree flavored, water flavored, and just calling it Earth Day brew were shot down pretty quickly. I then had a brilliant idea: dirt flavored coffee! I quickly reconsidered when I realized that our competitors have the market cornered on that flavor (hahahaha).
Ok now, seriously, after a long debate it was decided that our chai made us think of a long hike through the woods. What’s more nature inspired then a hike? The chai flavor contains lots of different spice flavors, and we all know that spices are grown from the Earth. In order to make this even more special we mixed in a little bit of our chocolate flavoring (also grown from the Earth) and it turns out it was real good, thus our first Earth Day flavor was born. As you celebrate the Earth, or as you are recycling, or just because it tastes good, please, enjoy our newest flavor!
As always, please feel free to let me know what you think of our flavors. And if you have ideas for some new ones, send them on over!
