Mr. Iced Tea1

We have always enjoyed the benefits of having a iced tea maker until recently when something went horribly awry. Yesterday our beloved ice tea pitcher developed a mysterious crack along its side, deeming it unusable. Needless to say we were outraged! And a large scale “who done it” occurred! Well, after like ten minutes of us accusing others we got over it… kinda.

The Power of White Tea4

Today our friends at RealAge featured us in an article highlighting the greatness that is white tea!

Apparently, white tea is a fat-burning machine! So, basically, it is my new best friend. Well, at least until winter comes and I can hide in my sweats again ;-)

CNBC11

We had some excitement at work yesterday because CNBC sent a film crew to shoot us for an upcoming feature!

The camera crew was actually really fun to work with. They took turns posing for their own photos in front of our burlaps and coffee machinery. One of the cameramen joking said that this was the first “coffee break” he has had in years!” They we so impressed with us that they purchased coffee to take home with them.

What’s Brewing at CBD?3

This morning, as I was filling up my reasonably sized mug, I had an opportunity to share some of my wisdom with Colleen. The coffee we have brewing in the kitchen today is called Indian Monsooned Malabar and she asked where the name came from. I explained to her that once these particular beans are harvested, they are then thrown back outside to be exposed to the weather during the Indian Monsoon Season. As the beans absorb the moisture of the windy air, they expand in size and take on a unique flavor.

Good-Bye Old Roaster1

Since January of 2008 we have been roasting with our new handmade German roaster, while our old roaster looked on sadly from the corner of the warehouse. We decided that it was time to let it go, so this weekend we finally sold it. It was hard to see it go, but we know that it is going to a better place. Plus, we got paid with this adorable bundle of cash, which drew quite a crowd at the bank upon its deposit.

Happy Birthday CBD!3

As some of you may know Coffee Bean Direct is now five-years-old. This past Friday we celebrated our observed start-up date; no one really knows the exact date of CBD’s start. Legend has it that in late April of 2004 CBD launched its first site, which only offered coffee in 25lb bags (Could you imagine a Coffee Bean Direct without 1lb, 5lb and burlap bags… scary!). Shortly after that the site was taken down for a couple weeks for “retooling.” The Site re-launched June 7th 2004, a date that to this day remains our observed birthday! So, happy birthday Coffee Bean Direct, we are looking forward to many more!

I hope you enjoyed that brief trip down memory lane… keep your eye out for our “next generation” CBD website, which is due in 6-8 months!

Coffee…what is it good for?0

Hello everybody! I figured that because I am new to this whole blog thing I would start off with something light. Today I’m going to discuss the health benefits of coffee. Now, I’m guessing that you are already a fan of coffee and you don’t need another reason for drinking it. However, it may be nice to know that the “guilty pleasure” you have been pouring into your mug every morning is actually good for you.
